Spot
the Difference
When trying to identify the difference between an SUV and a crossover,
our staff will mention a few things. Firstly, it is common practice for the two
terms to be used interchangeably. This means that referring to an SUV as a
crossover or vice versa is not necessarily incorrect. After all, they both
refer to four-door all-wheel-drive vehicles. However, there is an actual
difference between an SUV and a crossover: the design.
An SUV’s body and frame
are built separately from each other and then added together at the end of the
manufacturing process, this is what is known as a “body-on-frame” design. A crossover’s body and frame are manufactured as one unit, this is what is known
as a “unibody” design. All you need to know, is that this means an SUV is a bit
more truck-like in its handling, while the crossover more closely resembles a
sedan.
