When Should You Get an Oil Change?

We sell a wide variety of the world’s most popular cars here at Keyes Cars. From automakers like Honda, Lexus, and Porsche, we’ve got some of the best and most luxurious vehicles available today.

Since we sell so many fantastic cars, we wanted to give drivers as much information as possible when it comes to caring for your vehicle. That’s why we want to get down to the bottom of one of the most hotly debated topics: oil changes. With new cars, the old oil change rules may not apply. We’re here to help.

The old rule for a long time was that you should be getting your oil changed roughly every 3,000 miles, or about three times a year. However, thanks to better vehicle technology and advancements in synthetic oil, many drivers with modern cars can go longer between service. Many experts now say that the average driver needs an oil change between every 5,000 and 7,000 miles, or about twice a year.

However, depending on your driving habits, some experts posit that you should be changing your engine oil more frequently. For us drivers in the Los Angeles area, getting your oil changed more regularly may help your car last longer. If you often drive in stop and go traffic, don’t travel very far, or rarely get up to highway speeds, changing your oil every 1,000 miles is proven to preserve your engine longer. Since your engine rarely gets hot enough to burn off condensation, your oil gets dirty at a faster rate.

If you need an oil change, visit our Los Angeles car dealerships page to find your dealership and schedule an appointment today. We’ll get you and your car back on the road in no time at all.
